One more of Maymont's Japanese Garden pond

Japanese Garden Maymont

I took this with an old Mamiya Universal Press camera — with a 6x9cm back. This was one of my first tests with it! You can make 40x30 inch prints from the slides it creates.

Grace Street color

I took a walk today in the Fan and came across this beautiful tree with a pile of color under it!

Cloud drama

My neighborhood doesn't have the best scenics by any stretch, but sometimes even I get lucky, right outside my front door!

Deep Run magic

This photo was taken in the infrared wavelengths with a special IR filter. A little work in Photoshop brings out the "magic."

Stormy sunset

I used Photomatix, a great High Dynamic Range (HDR) software, to merge 3 diferent exposures into one. This was the result!

Lighthouse — Gibraltar, UK

On our whirlwind tour of South Spain, we had the opportunity to visit Gibraltar. This was a nice scene, among many, that I enjoyed taking pictures of.

Our backyard Japanese Maple

Detail of the leaves in the below shot.

Don't you love Spring? I sure do! Within the last week our little, red Japanese Maple tree blossomed forth with all it's leaves. I took this opportunity to try another panoramic shot. God sure does beautify the earth :)

Nodal Ninja test

This is one of my first panoramic tests using my new pan head called the "Nodal Ninja."
Place? Maymont, Japanese gardens.

Tulips by our mailbox

We planted some tulips by our mailbox — and I shot this with that same 35mm F2 lens mentioned earlier.

Beautiful bokeh

I got to borrow a Nikon 35mm F2 lens and was thrilled to see that it did some beautiful things with that background blur. We planted these new tulips near our mailbox.

Super depth of field

Photoshop has a new feature that processes several photos together at the same time to get extended depth of field. The foreground flowers are only about 3cm from my lens, and the house is like 30 feet. I used a macro lens and shot 9 different photos with varying focal points — all combined to make this one image. Not the prettiest image, but the technology behind it is way cool!

Foggy day

I love it when fog rolls in — well, as far as photos go. Landscapes get that kind of dreamy look.

Back to film

My friend Roy loaned me an old Contax film camera, with a 21mm Carl Zeiss lens. I shot 3 rolls of outdated neg film — and really enjoyed the imposed constraints inherent with this kind of camera/film combo. The downside was the $50 price-tag to process, scan and print the film. It was then I fell back in love with my digital camera :)
