Last of the leaves at Maymont

My favorite tree was nearly bare this weekend, but I explored a bit and found another tree at an angle I had never shot from before — and it had most of its leaves still. What you see here is a multipan/stitch panorama that measures approximately 30x20 inches at full print resolution. The sky and red foliage along with the evergreens makes an impressive color palette I think.

Roslyn tree

This tree had a lot of character. On one of my prayer-walks through the Roslyn I shot this with my LX3 and did some post-processing in Photoshop.

Tulips

We planted these last year and they actually survived to live again! If you knew are yard, you would know the kind of miracle this is.

Maymont tree blossoms

One of the prettiest trees in the park I think. This is another mutli-pan — about 8 photos seamlessly stitched together — 4 across on the first row, 4 on the second.
Some might wonder why I do this. That's easy — detail! If I were only posting to web with a small preview like this, a single 10MP image would be more than enough. In fact, it would be overkill. But to create large, poster-sized prints (or coffee-table sized books), landscape photog's go crazy for the most megapixel that we can get. And if you're like me and cannot afford a 60mp Hasselblad, you find workarounds like stitching single photos together into massive composites.

Spain: SalobreƱa, Nerja, and Gibraltar (UK)

I just recently (after trying for like 6 months!) completed working on all the photos I took of Spain and Portugal. Here are three. Within a few days I hope to have a 100 page, 13x10 inch hardcover book produced as well, through Apple's wonderful "iPhoto."

I know we're tired of snow, but…

I couldn't resist posting 2 more pics from my Sunday afternoon outing: Maymont and Byrd Parks.

Frozen Maymont

Imagine walking across this slightly frozen pond on these stepping stones, with my nice Nikon DSLR…
